Nancy DeMario Avci, 66, of Freehold, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born on March 28, 1957 to Maureen and Vincent Kalafut in Jersey City. Nancy grew up in Jersey City, a city she loved. After graduating from Henry Snyder High School in 1975 she worked at a nursing home until she married and moved to Wayne, NJ in 1978 where she became a real estate agent and raised her two children. She later went on to study nursing at Passaic County Community College.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson for years and finished her career as a nurse for Hospice by The Sea in Boca Raton, Florida.
Nancy enjoyed reading, word games, playing on the computer, talking on the phone and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her over-the-top style. Every outfit was always paired with the perfect piece of jewelry and perfect shade of lipstick.
Nancy was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. She had a fantastic sense of humor and a quick wit that will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Nancy was predeceased by her mother Maureen Hanley (nee Heaney), her father Vincent Kalafut, her sister Maureen Claudio and her brother John Hanley. She is survived by her daughter Alicia Pavone (nee DeMario) of Wayne, NJ and her husband Justan; her son Philip DeMario of Punta Gorda, FL; her sisters Susan Hanley and Kathy Hanley; and her beloved granddaughters, Lilly, Alayna, Jolie and Jacie.
Nancy requested a celebration of life be held in her honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. Nancy's loved ones will gather in celebrating her beautiful life on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 12 pm until 3 pm at Portobellos Restaurant, 175 Ramapo Valley Rd., Oakland, NJ. Nothing will be held at the funeral home.
