In Loving Memory of Alfonso Cavallo (January 11, 1930 - March 17, 2024)
Alfonso "Al" (or "Sonny") Cavallo, a lifelong resident of Totowa Borough, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on January 11, 1930, in Totowa Borough, NJ Alfonso "Al"/ "Sonny"/ "Fusco" Cavallo was involved in his community, volunteering as a fireman as a member of the Totowa Volunteer Fire Company No. 1. Al also served in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged in May 1947, and was decorated with both a World War II Victory Medal and an Occupational Medal - Japan. Al was the son of Joseph and Margherita Cavallo (nee Gaita), who emigrated from Italy. He was one of seven children born and raised in Totowa Borough, NJ. On January 7, 1958, Al married the love of his life, Dorothy "Dot" Rose (nee Delesio) of West Paterson, NJ. Al was a dedicated member of the Iron Workers Union - Local 483, Hackensack, NJ for over 40 years until his retirement. Outside of work, he found joy in training competitive rabbit hunting dogs, specifically beagles, and was a cherished member of the Blue Ridge Beagle Club in Wantage, NJ, for over 60 years. Al is survived by his brothers Samuel and Salvatore Cavallo, along with fifteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dororthy "Dot" Cavallo (nee Delesio), his brother Joseph Cavallo, and his sisters Elizabeth "Dolly" Czahlo (nee Cavallo), Concetta "Tillie" Cavallo, and Joan Rocco (nee Cavallo). Al's love for his family, his remarkable sense of humor, and his amazing zest will be dearly missed. Without life and love, hope departs; the passing of life is a divine intervention; our gateway to God's universe. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 4-8 pm at Gaita Memorial Home, 154 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Little Falls, NJ. A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 10:00 am at Saint James Church, 410 Totowa Road, Totowa, NJ. Those wishing to participate in the funeral procession should arrive at the funeral home at 9:00 am. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made "In Memory of Alfonso Cavallo - C/O Danuta Liszka" to Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 6 Wall Street, Passaic, NJ 07055. Please make checks payable to: Diocesan Shrine of Saint John Paul II, Holy Rosary Church. Envelopes will also be provided by the funeral home during visitation hours.
