Scardilli, Ruth M., (nee Spear), 86, of Little Falls, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 10, 2020. Born and raised in Montclair, New Jersey, and sometimes known as "Chocolate Chip", she, with the love of her life, Philip, raised a beautiful family, and then pursued a career with her second family at the Berkeley School, and remained with them 30 years, until well after they became a college. She was recognized for 30 years of service, and, after many wonderful work and social activities with them, she retired from full time employment at 85 years of age.
A devoted wife, mom, and grandma, Ruth enjoyed her garden outside, as well as tending an amazing jungle of plants inside. Over the years, she bowled, and was a member of a neighborhood ladies' group, and devoutly attended Holy Angels Church and their many functions. Beloved wife of the late Philip, and adoring mother of the late Patricia, loving grandmother of the late Michael Scardilli, Ruth is survived by her daughters Susan, Janice Zimmermann and husband Uwe, Ellen Palazzo and husband Joe, her sons Mark and wife Christine, Bruce and wife Barbara, and Scott and wife Caren, and her grandchildren Mark Philip, Samantha, Chantal, Nicholas, Lexi, Daniel, Taylor, Dylan, Sean, Jake, Nico, and a step-grandson Sven. Visiting will be at Gaita Memorial Home, 154 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Little Falls, on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 4-8 PM. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Our Lady of the Holy Angels Church, 473 Main Street, Little Falls, NJ at 10 AM. Please arrive at the funeral home at 9:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home during visiting hours.
