Very sorry to hear of the passing of Rodney. Although I haven't seen him since grade school, we were friends. My condolences to all of his family.

I'm so very sorry to hear that my friend Rodney, whom I loved and respected has passed away. In 1996 I was selling windows and siding for Sears, always on the road doing the In-home Dog & Pony show I was constantly seeing Total’s trucks everywhere. Looking to make a move I decided to stop by Total’s headquarters. As I approached the front door a guy with his arms crossed wearing the iconic Total polo shirt was outside standing on the sidewalk. As I was reaching the door he slid over and blocked it. He asked, “Can I help you,” I told him I’ve been seeing their vehicles on the road and wanted to stop by to inquire into what job opportunities in sales might be available. With his arms now down by his sides as if we were going to have a showdown, he asked, “Do you think you have what it takes? A lot of guys come here looking for sales jobs, but not a lot of guys have what it takes!” “What makes you think you have what it takes?” Myself already being in the business for years I had witnessed so many hot shots come through the door saying that they were going to light the world on fire prior to their first appointment to become just another one and done. Knowing he was measuring me up, my reply was, ‘I’m not here to find out if I have what it takes, I'm here to show you how it's done.’ Rodney looked me in the eye and let his iconic roar of a laugh. We formed a bond and friendship at that doorway that never ended.
