Lazzaro ("Larry") A. Pizzichetta, 75, of Totowa, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 14, 2021. He was born January 18, 1946 to Matteo and Grace Pizzichetta, Italian immigrants, of Lodi, NJ. He was raised in Garfield, NJ alongside his brother Sal. Larry was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1965-1971. He was a supervisor for the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission in Newark for 25 years before retiring. Larry was a sports enthusiast, and a lifelong fan of the Oakland Raiders and New York Yankees. He found joy coaching his son in soccer and Little League baseball. He could always be found on the sidelines rooting for the Passaic Valley High School soccer team. Larry also served as Vice President of Totowa Police Athletic League. Larry was at his happiest when surrounded by his family and friends, and sharing his love for Italian food and traditions. In his later years, Larry was brought immense joy by his grandchildren Dominick and Maria. Larry would even let Dominick play inside of his precious Cadillac, a privilege not granted to anyone else.
Larry is survived by his wife Kathy (nee Calabrese). He is the beloved father of Patrick and his wife Katrina, and adoring grandfather of Dominick James and Maria Katherine. Dear brother of Salvatore Pizzichetta and treasured sister-in-law Lucille. Cherished uncle of Matthew Pizzichetta and Deena and Jeff Leider. Loving great uncle of Jason, Justin and Jordan Leider. Larry will also be missed by his devoted dog Callie, as well as many lifelong friends from Garfield and Totowa. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Montvale, NJ for giving us precious extra time, allowing Larry to meet and enjoy both of his beloved grandchildren. For that gift, we are eternally grateful. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 6-8 PM at Gaita Memorial Home, 154 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Little Falls. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. James of the Marches Church, 410 Totowa Rd., Totowa. Please meet at Gaita Memorial Home at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers and plants, please consider a donation to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 5208, Hagerstown, MD 21741. For the health and safety of all attendees, the family requests that masks are worn in the building and social distancing protocols are followed.
